ABOUT

Hegel County was voted as safest county in the nation by the National County Committee Council.

Founded in 1853, Hegel county has seen its fair share of good and bad.  Hegel County started with three villages.  Now, Hegel has grown to include three cities and fourteen different villages.  We take our county seriously with new initiatives to make this county safe.  

 

Hegel History
 

Hegel County is also the birth place of several heroes and famous people. Walter Willerman, the National Champion in corn growing in 1932.  General Filmore Hankton, saved Hegel County from flooding in 1964. Susan Lowers, created the largest cherry pie in 1895 and remains the largest pie ever made. (There's still a few pieces left)  Margaret Lawerence, founded the Legion of Better People (LBP), which is group dedicated to creating better people in the world.  Jack Flanningan, became the highest decorated C.A.O. after citing 187 citizen's for violations of Hegel County Ordinances in 2014.
